Apr 7, 2013 10:00 AM in response to David Gurgaby Eric Root,To get iDVD, you'll need to get a copy of iLife 11. I think iLife 09 works, but I'm not positive.

I was told by an Apple rep on the phone to open Utilities. Open disc utilities. Put a DVD in my drive. Click on Burn. Then right click on the video I want to burn. Choose "Burn this to disc. Some work and some don't. And the videos I am burning are in the MP4 format. Now I can play the videos in their entirety on the computer with no problem.
Eric.
Where would I get a copy of Ilife and would it work with the newest OS Mountain Lion?

Apr 7, 2013 11:56 AM in response to David Gurgaby KarenSelena,I understand.
Disk Uitilty can make copies of "some" disks, but not all disks. Generally, if you burn this disk yourself on this computer, you likely will find it will work in Disk Utility. If someone else created the disk, disk utility will not likely work.
Just FYI - How to use Disk Utility to do this - Open "Disk Utility" on the computer, found by clicking finder in the dock, selecting applications then the utilities folder. You should see Disk Utility in the utilities folder.
When disk utility is open, you will see the words "disk utility" beside the apple, at the end of this top menu bar, you should see "help". Click on "help" and select "disk utility help". In the window that opens, search out the words "duplicate CD or DVD" in the top right search engine of this window. Follow the instructions listed there, for instructions on how to do this. Also, see this article - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2059.
If you are looking for iDVD, you can look on "Ebay, or Amazon" for iLife 09 DVD disks or iLife 11 DVD disks
I would purchase a copy of iLife 09 over the iLife 11 DVD disc, if you can, as I understand it has more available themes, then the version on iLife 11 DVD disc's.

Apr 7, 2013 12:57 PM in response to KarenSelenaby David Gurga,Thank you Karren. I will give this a try. But I still don't understand why the dvds would play fine for a few minutes and then the audio would disappear but the image part of the DVD would still play.
And you think Ilife 9 will work with OS10.8.3?
Thank you for your help. :-)

Apr 7, 2013 1:14 PM in response to David Gurgaby Baby Boomer (USofA),Software you may consider:
Burn
I personally use Wondershare DVD Creator which I find is better & easier to use than iDVD.
Roxio Toast is pretty good too! I use this as a back-up and/or if I don’t want to get too fancy.

What are the files you are burning? Are they all from the same source?

Apr 7, 2013 7:31 PM in response to petermac87by David Gurga,Pete,
I use a downloader to download videos of concerts from YouTube. Then I convert them to mp4 videos to burn with mp3 for audio. I do this because I have a Smart TV but my DSL is so slow that it buffers all the time. So I found this to be the best alternative. :-)

Apr 8, 2013 5:25 AM in response to David Gurgaby Radiation Mac,★HelpfulThose are simply two different disk formats. Some DVD writers/players work better ith one or the other, although the writer/players in almost all cases are rated to work with both formats.
