I can't dismiss notifications by swiping from left to right but I can open Notification Center by swiping from right to left. Why is that? It used to work before!

Hello,

I can't dismiss notifications by swiping from left to right but I can open Notification Center by swiping from right to left. Why is that? It used to work before! Even the notification center trackpad setting is checkmarked. It just suddenly decided not to let me dismiss notifications from swiping left to right.

Maxed Out 2013 15" Macbook Pro Retina running on the most up-to-date OSX v10.8.3.

Hi DJ CodeBlue,

On the icon in the menu bar, I three finger swipe from right to left to open it and the same in the opposite direction to close it. It works here.

Editted: In System preferences > Trackpad it says to swipe with two fingers from the right edge of the track pad. It's working alright here both ways.

Hello,

I don't have an issue opening and closing the notification center. My issue is that I'm not able to dismiss pop up notifications from the notification center by swiping from left to right which is a feature of the Notification Center. it used to work before but now I have to manually drag the pop up notification to the right to dismiss or press the close button on the top right of it.

Hi DJ CodeBlue,

I f you go to the Apple menu:

System Preferences > Notifications

It explains that Alerts stay on the screen while Banners don't. Is that what you're writing about?

No. I'm saying that I can't easily dismiss alerts or banners from the notification center by doing the gesture swiping from left to right. Look at this link, it might better help you understand what I'm trying to say!

I'm having the same issue, it started when I switched from a Magic Mouse to Magic Trackpad, now it no longer works with either device.

So annoying!!!

I recently upgraded the hard drive in my MBP (Early 2011) and reinstalled ML and now have the same issue. When I put in my old hard drive and boot to the same version of ML there, it works just fine, but not on the fresh install. Everything else seems to work just fine, just can't two finger swipe to dismiss notification banners.

This problem just occurred on my iMac too. I've tried safe booting to no avail, but my wife's account is working normally. This is a tricky one.

Quick update: I tried the left>right swipe gesture on the Magic Mouse to dismiss a notification on the Magic Mouse and that worked. Doing that seems to have unclogged something on my system, because the trackpad gesture is working for me again now too. Strange. Does that work for anyone else?

I was able to get it working again, but it's clearly a bug, another thread documented the strange link between the notification gestures and the magic mouse system preferences.

In System Preferences > Mouse > More Gestures I had "Swipe between pages" turned off, turned that back on and notification dismisals returned to normal. So I have all 3 gestures on that preference pane enabled and it works now.

I can confirm that this setting does result in the Notification Center exhibiting the appropriate behavior. Definitely a bug though, as I don't think NC dismissal should be tied to two finger history swiping. I don't really like the two finger swiping for back/forward, but definitely appreciate dismissing notifications.

Double-check that Swipe between pages is enabled, under System Preferences > Trackpad (or Magic Mouse) > More Gestures
