My iPad mini will not turn on and is very hot. Any ideas what I can do?

I have been using my ipad mini for a couple of months. All of the sudden it will not turn on and is very hot to the touch. I have tried and "soft" and "hard" reset and nothing happens. I also tried hooking it up to itunes on my computer, but the computer does not recognise the ipad. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do to fix it?
