Mouse cursor randomly switches to slow speed

At seemingly random intervals, my cursor will freeze for a half second then move at a slow speed from then on. I have to unplug and re-plug the mouse to get the regular speed again. I should say that I'm using Steermouse, so I suspect that it's a bug with that, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem.
