Apr 10, 2013 3:12 AM in response to tttdby tttd,Hi Linc,
The screen saver window hangs whilst 'loading photo's'
The photo folder is on my hard drive, ie not even in iPhoto library, or on a different network drive.
The error message reads
'The was a problem connecting to the server Tony Thompson MacBook (this is an old laptop that I no longer use and has not connected to my network for 3 years)
The server may not exisit or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name, or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again'
I also get this message when I run iWeb and it tries to connect to my photo media
Thanks for your help

Apr 10, 2013 10:35 AM in response to tttdby Linc Davis,Open the folder. Start a Spotlight search by pressing the key combination command-F. Set as the search criterion Kind is Other: alias. One or more of the items that appear is an alias to a file on the unavailable server. Delete those items.

Apr 11, 2013 7:34 AM in response to tttdby Linc Davis,Move everything out of that folder temporarily to another folder. Test. If the warning messages stop, move half the items back and test again. Continue until you isolate the cause.

Apr 14, 2013 1:55 AM in response to Linc Davisby tttd,Thanks for your suggestion, but I still have the same issue. Somebody else suggested that I check my permissions, which I have done... still nothing has surfaced as an error

Apr 14, 2013 5:57 AM in response to tttdby Linc Davis,Boot in safe mode as directed here:
Log in and see whether you still have the problem. If you don't, it's caused by one of your login items or a system modification that loads at startup or login.
If the problem isn't resolved that way, other possible causes are references in the iPhoto, iTunes, or iMovie library pointing to the server, and bookmarks in the Preview application
See iMovie Troubleshooting: Connection Failed, Server Does Not Exist.
