I'm trying to install 10.6 on an admittingly old pieceof junk, but never the less sufficient according the sys req:s, and the ****** thing just spits out the DVD without any explination. Most frustrating. Any ideas? Anyone?

How old is "an old piece of junk"? In your current OS, click on the Apple at the upper left and choose "About This Mac". What does it show is the Processor type? If it's a G5 or older (basically, any CPU that doesn't state it as Intel), you can't install Snow Leopard. It requires a Mac with an Intel CPU. A G5 or older is PowerPC.
