Audio Recorder not working

I bought Garageband for my iphone 4s last week. I've used it on the Mac since day one, but after seeing it in action on an ipad recently i liked the idea of going mobile with it - especially since I also purchased an iRig for my bass.

However, it's not been an enjoyable experience.

Everything seems to work okay except for the Audio Recorder instrument. When I tap the record button nothing happens for ages - and then suddenly the count in tries to start and then pauses. Sometimes it'll record a snippet, but mostly it hangs and often it freezes to the point where I have to reset the phone.

Yesterday I managed to get an eror message that I've googled, but it only seems to apply to the Mac version of Garageband - "Disk is too slow - Prepare (100001)"

I've deleted, reset and reinstalled the app with no luck. I have 6 gig of spare space on my iphone so i don't think that can be an issue and the songs I've tried to compose have had a couple of tracks with a few bars.

Maybe the iPhone is too slow. The mimimum requirement isa 3GS model so the 4S should be fine.

Did you try to turn off everything else (WiFi, Bluetooth, etc) and restart the phone to make sure that nothing else is running in the background? See if that makes a difference.

Hope that helps

I had this exact problem, tried all the other solutions, and none of them worked, but then I did a complete restore of iOS and restored my phone from a backup. (No data or settings lost, and it didn't take as long as I feared - I have a mostly-full 64GB 4S.) Now it works. Yay!

I wonder if this had the effect of what we used to call "defragmenting" the drive (yes, I know the iPhone has an SSD instead of a magnetic hard drive) back in the day. (I guess they still call it that, but I never do it anymore... hmm... I wonder if that would speed up my almost-five-year-old MacBook.)

Anyway, hope this helps someone else.
