macbook is very sluggish, keeps beach ballin'

My one year old MacBook Pro seems to acting very sluggish. Even tasks like browsing and pages take a gruesome amount of time to start. It is getting very irritating to finish even a single task without the machine slowing down (immensely) and all I get to see are BeachBalls.

Any suggested solution to the problem?

To narrow it down it's worth opening the console and see if any error messages arise when you have spin events like that.

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.
