Macbook cannot connect to shared printer

I have an iMac to which my HP laser printer is connected via USB. I want to be able to print documents from my Macbook to the printer, but although it recognises the printer on the network, every time I try to connect to it it says "Unable to download the software from the server at the time".

The printer is switched on, has paper, toner etc. The iMac is switched on. Both computers can talk to each other. Printer sharing is turned on. I have downloaded the Apple software update for HP printers. I'm a bit at a loss as to what to try next!

Please help cos I've been trying to get this sorted for a week now!

Thanks

Hi,

What is the printer model?

Have you checked it is compatible with your OS X version?

Try removing any instance of previous drivers of your printer:

From finder go to Computer and select your boot volume.

Enter the Library folder and then enter into Printers.

Move the HP folder to the trash.

browse ito PPDs > Contents > Resources ans search the folder for your printer model name, remove any instances of its drivers to the trash.

Reboot your Mac and try adding it again.

If the same persists you may try installing teh package belwo and then check for any differene:
