does upgrading itunes affect library?

I am trying to upgrade itunes on my macbook to 11.0.2 version. If I install this newer version on my computer, does it delete my songs or affect my song library in any way? The instructions make it sound more like a replacement than an upgrade, so I am nervous about losing data files (i.e., all my songs) if I upgrade.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5)

No if you upgrade iTunes, it should not delete your music files. It is just like installing a new overall Operating System, it does not touch your files when it updates. If it does however misplace a file, the new version of iTunes will detect discrepancies and will auto repair and receive the file back or will automatically detect it as a purchase on iTunes not on your computer using iCloud. Overall it is very safe to update, and it is a much improved version of iTunes. I also updated it and it works like a charm.
