Hi, was having date and time problems with 450 Hz dual processor G4 (was defaulting to the 1904 date on OS9 start-up). So I replaced the pram battery. It now sporadically starts-up with the year 2040 (I understand this is the lifespan given to it by Apple). I've tried resetting the pram but nothing has changed. Will resetting the cuda/pmu be an option for this problem or has the trusty old bus finally turned its last wheel?

Hi Stuart, if you do the PMU reset, only do it once.
I guess it's not connected to the Internet and/or Date & Time pref pane not set to automatically set from Internet?
Thanks for the advice, I already know to do it just the once but am wondering whether the hard drive will be affected by the reset ... would it be wise to remove it before resetting?

I've never heard of it affecting the Hard Drive, I don't see how it could.
Of course you're right, I'm just being overly cautious. Reset the pmu, first 2 boot ups still had 2040 date but have had 3 consecutive with correct date. I'll just take each day as it comes and see how it goes, I can't say I haven't had my monies worth 🙂
