How to cancel server login message in Safari?

Hi,

Sometimes websites set up login requirements on the webserver. When you try to access the page the browser slides down a default login window with the message:

To view this page you must login to area "-something-here-" on somethig.something.com:80.

Now if I don't know the password there is no way to get rid of this window. I hit cancel and the login window slides up then down again. I can't access my open tabs in that window. I quit Safari and dreopen it and it kindly opens all my previusly open pages including this one with the login. It appears there is absolutely no way to close this window ever.

Anyone knows the trick? Is this a stupid usability flaw?

Thanks,

Luke
