16 GB of RAM for Mid 2010 Macbook Pro?

So I have recently bought a 16 GB ram upgrade for my Macbook Pro Mid 2010. I bought Corsair ram (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233217) and tried installing it last night when I installed them I had the screen on boot up show the gray screen and the gray apple. The little buffering circle would freeze and I would have to force a shut off (kernal panick?). I then took one 8 GB ram and then my 2 GB ram (that came with my computer for a total of 10) and the ram showed up as 10 GBs. I did this method to the other 8 GB and with the same results. Obviously both new sticks work and both slots work. But what is the problem that it is not registering both of the new ones at the same time? I had researched more of this and my laptop should be compatible to 16 gb, not sure if I got the wrong "cheap" ram that doesn't work with my computer. I watched this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkVEg2X6cbo) and he has the same exact model execpt with different ram (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/8566DDR3S16P/) and the OWC website says mine can support 16 gbs, but what is the difference between the ram? How to I get my 16 gb worth?

That is on my computer right now^

How can I get my laptop to accept the 16 gbs without causing any freezing?

Likely a problem with the Corsair RAM, we hear a lot of issues with it. "Value RAM" usually equals crapola.

Get OtherWorld Compting as they know certain machines with 10.7 or later installed can address the full 16GB, so it's a special case basically.

Crucial.com likely will only advise 8GB like what Apple will also say too likely.

If your MBP is 2010 13" MBP (model 7.1) then do as Kappy recommends. If yours is a 15" or 17" 2010 MBP, then the maximum RAM accepted will be 8 GB.

Ciao.

Actually that model if he has 10.7 or later should accept the full 16GB according to Other World Computing.

So I think it's just the crappy Corsair RAM usually used for PC's especially at NewEgg.

Actually, the RAM you purchased and installed is not specified for your Macbook.

You have a 2010 Macbook Pro - 1066MHz RAM is required.

You purchased (from your link) Corsair 1333MHz RAM - which not only out of spec but it is also called Value RAM.

If you check the CL of the one you purchased - it's at 9 the one OWC sells is not only the right one but it's at CL-7.

Wrong speed + wrong clock rate = issues.

Spend the extra $$$ and get Apple Certified RAM if you want it to work for your Macbook Pro.

Only Macbook 7.1 (2010 Macbook White) and 13 Inch Macbook Pro (2010) can handle 16GB DDR3 1066MHz RAM.

I just upgraded a 2010 Macbook White 2.4GHz with 16GB of RAM for a friend and it works great.

Good luck
