Apple TV will not wake iMac, any help?

Just bought a new Apple TV (3rd gen) and a new iMac. On both products I have Home Sharing turned on. I also have my firewall turned off. I have no problem seeing my files through Apple TV when the computer is awake but I want to be able to get on Apple TV at any time and access my files without having to go wake up my computer first. Anyone else experiencing this problem or have ideas on how I can fix it?

Apple TV, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Unfortunetaly the Westell 7500 does not support on demand awake. You will have to manually turn on your imac in order to complete itunes home sharing through your apple tv. On the other hand, if you have your music library on an airplay capeable i-device, it is possible that you can airplay your music from that i device.

I hope this helps,

Cheers,

Allen

FYI, I have exactly this issue. The way I get around it is to use the remote app on my iphone to wake up the iMac (just open remote and connect to my computers library). This wakes up the mac. Then I can connect my Apple TV to the iMac's library. It take about ten seconds, and saves having to walk over to the other side of my home.

Hi,

I have the same problem. My AppleTV and my iMac. The appleTV will not wake my iMac or more correct it tries to wake my iMac and the mac goes to sleep again after 2 sec.

Yes I have the newest Time Capsule (Base station) with newest software. Yes I have enabled wake on lan.

In the system log I can see that the iMac tries to wake, then some errors and then it goes to sleep again. I have alway had this problem.

I just bought an imac and am having the same issue. Apple TV won't wake my imac. Wake for network is on, but can't find any settings on my router. I'm using the FIOS supplied router, and can't find wake on demand settings anywhaere. Router is an Actiontec model MI424WR-Gen2. Firmware 20.20.8. Anyone know this router and can you tell me if it has the capability? If so, where do I find it?

Thanks!

What time capsule and firmware have you got? I have 5th generation and 7.7.2 I think there is a firmware bug and the feature is not implemented correctly

If instead you only have an AppleTv 3rd generation and no apple routers, the appletv has a bonjour sleep proxy engine so that should be sufficient to wake up your mac as long as your mac has the option in the energy saving preferences

In my case I have a time capsule 5th generation that seem to fail the service so the appletv does not wake up the devices however if I connect a non apple router it does

So you don't need an apple router to have the service, the apple tv generation 3 does it as long as the firmware of your mac and the energy saving settings are correct

Apple TV will not wake iMac, any help?
