iPhone won't send iMessage (even when signed on Wi-FI or 3G)

My iPhone won't send iMessages even when I try to connect through Wi-Fi or 3G. At first I thought it was my Wi-Fi but it wasn't since I can connect to programs such as Safari and Instagram. I have also reset my network settings. Can someone help me or have any idea how I can fix this?

Thank you!

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

Apple's servers are currently down. As you could also have learned by reading the forum before posting. See: http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/

So now what's the answer? My iMessages haven't been working since early April, and now it's mid-May. Are Apple's servers still down? Is there a reason why my iPhone 4S won't sync with certain calendar items? is there a reason why my passcode lock deactivated itself? Is there a reason why incoming text messages won't come through until there are 2 or more from the same person? Is there a reason why my iPhone 4S is still acting this way even though I did a system restore?

Do a system restore, and do not reload your backup. Restore as a new phone. There is clearly data corruption in your backup of a Restore of the backup left you with all of these problems.

Unless your phone is jailbroken; then that is your problem.

Your passcode lock deactivates when you restore the phone on the last computer you synced to. This is the only way to get around a passcode lock that you forgot.

When your phone doesn't sync selected calendar items there are several possible reasons. The most common is that you haven't set the calendar app to sync all calendars and groups. You fix this in settings. The other common reason is the calendar entries on your computer are corrupted with bad data.

Phone is not jailbroken.

Got it re: passcode lock.

If I do a system restore, but I restore as a new phone, will my crucial phone functionality remain intact (phone number, ability to make calls, etc.)? And when it's restored, do I then just do a sync to have all my data brought back into the device?

Sync settings for calendar and contacts are enabled properly, and are the same as they have been for years. I'm not sure it's the calendar or contact data that is corrupted (although anything is possible) because the sync problems started happening exactly when the iMessage problems started happening.

Please advise on the system restore (not from backup) and I will post my results. Just wanna make sure I'm not doing anything irreparable.

Thanks...DG

A Restore as New will not change your phone settings. The are on your SIM, which is not affected by the Restore (unless you have a CDMA phone; in that case your settings are in the network and are retrieved when the phone is reactivated after the Restore).

the other thing to check on contact and calendar sync is your email passwords. Sometimes they are also removed after a restore and you need to re-enter them.
