Do I have to turn off the keyboard after I shut down the computer or does it automatically turns off after I shut down the compputer. in past 8 days I have used 2 stes of batteries.

Battery usage is a function KB usage.
In answer, Apple Bluetooth devices go into a very low power mode after a brief period of non-use. Eight days does seem a bit short.
I use rechargeables and a 15 minute charger, by the way.
