How do I download the drivers for a printer when the printer has its own network?

At my house, we have an HP Photosmart C4385 wireless all-in-one printer. It is broadcasting on a ad-hoc network. When my 13" MacBook Pro is on its network and tries to connect to the printer to print, it asks to download the drivers. When I answer yes, it tells me there was a network problem. I need to print on this printer, and am unable to. Please help me get this to work.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), 13"
