MacKeeper reqeusted that security setting be changes prior to an update could be installed? Then after this was altered it now wants access to our confidential information on our Key Chain? Is this safe and why do they have to have access to our info just to do an update?

I'm only chiming in with AnaMusic's advice because I know from experience what a sod MacKeeper can be. I'm sorry it has got anywhere near your system. As soon as you can get rid of it; use Easy Find (free app from app store) to find every little bit of it ... then delete.
