Q: How do I restore a Saved Search removed from the Sidebar?

Hello All,

Did something silly that is hopefully simple to remedy.

I had a really useful Saved Search smart folder in Finder's sidebar.

With my not concentrating, I accidentally right-clicked it (instead of the one I was aiming for) - and "remove(d it) from Sidebar".

Upon looking for it in the Saved Searches folder - it is still there - comeplete with it's purple Smart Folder icon.

Clicking on it, still reveals all the items it has identified, so it's still active.

Question - how on earth do I get it back into the Side-bar?

I've right-cliked it, and nothing appears to be applicable.

[Option]-clicking it, yields a few different results - but again, nothing to get it back into the sidebar.

Dragging it also doesn't appear to work - it allows me to 'drop' it into some of the other sidebar files, but it doesn't allow me to place it in between icons, as you would when you drag an ordinary folder into the Sidebar.

I would replicate it, if I could remember what search terms I used. Fact is - this Saved Search does what I needed, and I cannot get the others to do the same - so if possible, would really like to get it back into the Side-bar, as it was.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks!

As I recall, the way this thing ended up in the sidebar in the first place was via the "Save" dialog.  That is, when you created the smart folder there was a "Save" button you pressed. In the resulting save dialog there is a checkbox to add it to the sidebar.  Maybe re-save the folder?

Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library". Then go to the Saved Searches folder and drag it to your Sidebar.

Thanks for the suggestion - but not winning. Right clicking on the folder doesn't present a "Save" option, and Ctrl-S does nothing.

Unless I'm not understanding you correctly?

Macjack - as mentioned in my original post - I know where it is in the Library folder - since I went over there to have a look at it, and I then tried to do just that - drag it into the sidebar. All without any luck, which is why I came here.

I would try macjack's suggestion first.  But you could just recreate the smart folder and save it with the sidebar checkbox checked.

I'm hoping that there is a simple (albeit un-intuitive??) solution to this...

Surely if the act of removing it from the sidebar was to have permanence - then the folder would be removed from the Saved Searches library folder as well? What would be the point of leaving it there, if one cannot get it back into the sidebar?

Nope. Macjack's suggestion didn't worked - it's what I tried before coming here.

I realise I could simply recreate the Smart Search folder, but as indicated - I'm having difficulty recreating the exact same results - it had several conditions to it, and I'm not having much luck with repeating the effect. If nothing comes up - I'll have no choice - but still hoping someone knows of a plain and simple option....

Ok.  Just in case you try to recreate the smart folder, note that if you open the folder you can look at the search criteria via the little gear menu in the title area of the folder window.

(I appreciate that this thread is old but am posting this in case others, like me, google and reach this page)

Select the savedSearch file in the Finder (~Library/Saved Searches) and then choose File » Add to sidebar. Ctrl-Command-T shortcut has the same result.

    Thanks.

Indeed - was a long time ago, but went back to check, and the >> Add to Sidebar is indeed active. Not sure if it was during the time of ML, but regardless, had this happened to me now, this would've worked.
