deleting files that say cannot be deleted

i have a few files on my deskop that are showing up at excel and word files and when i click on them to move to trash a window pops up telling me that they cannot be deleted. i also cannot drag the files anywhere or get any info on them when i click on it. i just want to know how i can get rid of them because it seems like another one keeps popping up every week.
