Snow Leopard Update Problem

I installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3 onto a wiped drive, left only one partition upon the GPT formatting...I am now trying run the updates in order to move up operating systems. After running software update and 1.27gb being dowloaded, I receive the following...The update "Mac OS X Update Combined" can't be saved. It says the update can not be verified and/or may have been corrupted during download and will run again at next attempt. This has occurred at least three times now. Any ideas what I can do different to complete these updates?

Try going to this link and downloading, set your browser to download to the desktop, Safari preferences>general save downloaded files: desktop. Then run theinstall when the download is complete.

Tried that, brings up a window to do the update but once to "desitination select" won't let me choose my drive because it needs OS X version 10.6.7 or later to install...which I can't get to because of the original error.

The previous link was for the wrong updater, you need the COMBO version.

Just download the combo updater from the Apple web site: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
