Are you able to print to that printer from another application, like Preview? What version of iPhoto and system are you running. What happens when you try to initiate the print process?

Hello and thank you for replying, very kind.
I'll answer the best I can, since I am not an expert!!! All I know is that I can perfectly well print documents from the MacBook Pro on that printer, but any attempt at printing photos goes awry: very simply, I only get half of the picture, in the left hand side half of the photo paper. The iPhoto version I am using is iPhoto '11 version 9.4.2 (710.42). Perhaps my printer is too old? Many thanks.
Make sure you've cropped your photo in iPhoto to the same size as the paper size selected if you want a borderless print and have selected the same print size.
Have you searched the HP website for drivers for the HP4580 printer or installed the latest HP printer drivers offered by Apple? HP Printer Drivers v. 2.13 for OS X
Hi again,
Thanks for all your suggestions.
Have now come to the conclusion that there is a fault with my printer. Husband tried to print photos from his iMac with my printer, and encountered the same problems!
If it had not been for you and the help you gave me, I would still be wondering.
Many thanks for your kind/efficient help.
