Finder crashes when downloading to NAS.

All I want to do is purchase a NAS that will work with my MAC. I am a photographer and need to have one that I can consistently download to. Please help. I thought that Synology would be the answer but I am afraid it is not. My wife has a windows computer and would like to be able to access the photos I have taken of our son, yet I cannot seem to find a solution. What is the answer? How do I get something that she can also utilize? I'm so disappointed in Synology. I just hope someone can help me.
