If it does everything you want it to do, why replace it?

Some of the usual reasons for getting a newer computer are:

    • the old one is slow,

    • to do stuff the old one cannot, e.g. run newer software,

    • have some extra $$$ to spend.

It really is up to you.

    Neither, they are all obsolete.

    Vintage and obsolete Apple products:

Obsolete products are those that were discontinued more than seven years ago. Apple has discontinued all hardware service for obsolete products with no exceptions. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. These include ALL G4 models. On November 23, 2011 all G5 models were declared as 'vintage'. Obsolescence cannot be far behind.

Time to start saving for a Mac from 2009 at the earliest.

    I have a 2006 PowerBook G4 12" (OS X 10.5.8) and a 2006 MacBook core duo (OS X 10.6.8).

I like the G4 very much but it does not have the capabilities of the MacBook. In addition to the Intel software the MacBook has Rosetta which seamlessly runs PPC applications when needed. Also I use the MacBook with a scanner and printer that are not supported on my MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.

My advice is to get the best MacBook you can afford.

It depends on the price and what you want to do with it.

I have a G4 12in 1.5GHz running Tiger. I take it with me when I go on trips, primarily to check email.

If you want to run newer apps and newer OS X versions, you need to get a MacBook or MacBook Pro, both of which have Intel processors.

I love my PowerBook G4 17", but I also love my 17" MacBook Pro.

If I could only choose to use one of these, it would have to be the MacBook Pro. Simply as it has the Intel processor and with that comes better application support from later Mac OS X versions.

With the MacBook you can run more updated version of software like, Safari and iTunes.
