iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - has a good duplicate elimination module

Where do you see these 'duplicates"? in looking through events in iPhoto? In photos view in iPhoto? Where?
Since two different duplicate programs do not see duplicates I'm guessing that these are not duplicates - but need more informaiton to help more
What version of iPhoto?
LN
iPhoto is update to last version.
The duplicate photo have different name and date but same size.i think md5 is the only date that i can use to compare them but i can't find a software that do it.i also try to reimport database in iphoto but all items are imported.
If they have different names and dates then no software will find them as duplicates.
really??
Thanks

I see the duplicate in iphoto in photos
They are not duplicates as they have different metadata. Photo A with a date of January 1 will never seem the same as Photo B with a date of January 2, even if they are a snap of the same thing. One of the basic ways of differentiating between files are names and dates.

Those would be considered "similar" photos but not duplicates. There is a way to find similar photos but it involves the demo version of Media Pro 1 and is somewhat complex.

I have had duplicates several times in iPhoto.

1 - I do not use Tidy up but be careful and have a good backup - it has been reported to damage iPhoto libraries
2 - the advice in the linked blog to use terminal to delete the originals and replace them with modified is spectuarlly stupid - it will cause a loss of photos and for the photos that remain it totally eliminates one of iPhoto's strongest features of lossless editing - you must NEVER make any change to the structure of content of the iPhoto library - doing so will cause dataloss - if you do not want your originals always kept then do not use iPhoto - use a program that works the way you want - iPhoto always keeps the original and must always have it
Please rrefrain form posting destructive advice for unsuspecting users

iPhoto should be able to detect duplicate photos the same way humans do - i.e. if the photo itself - the *actual picture* not the metadata, is identical. It's really absurd that such basic functionality is not built into iPhoto.
And do you have a questiono for the volenteer users here?
LN
Yes. Until such time as Apple deigns to provide such a basic feature, what third party (free or reasonably priced) options do iPhoto users have to solve this problem?
iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - as previously posted in this thread - if you had read the very first answer you would have seen that
