iPod software update server problem

I had problems with turning on my iTouch 4G version iOS 5.1.1. I downloaded iOS 6.0.1 from a site i trust. I put my iTouch into recovery mode and opened iTunes. It's the latest version (11.0.2). It recognized my iPod and wanted to restore it. By holding down the Shift key, i selected restore and opened the .ipsw file. It showed extracting software, and showed the error ' The iPod "iPod" could not be restored because the iPod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable '. Can anyone please help. I can't turn my iPod on!

Apple only supports updating/restoring to the latest iOS, which for the 4G is 6.1.3. If you try an earlier one you will get an error.
