black screen on my iphone 5

Reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 10 seconds until the iPhone restarts itself. If still nothing, Restore iPhone with iTunes on your computer. If still problem, make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send iPhone to Apple for resolution.

Same thing just happened to my phone, I tried the hard reset like you are suggesting but nothing happened. Its like the screen is dead.

I have this problem too. Try to hard reset on the Iphone5, sometimes it resets, sometimes it doesn't. I also did a reset via Itunes and restored all. Still the problem happend.

If you google this problem many sites return, so it must be a know problem for Apple. Would be great if a solution would be posted.

Just converted to MacPro, + iPhone 5, and was looking at iPad aswell. Not so sure anymore! Just got a black screen iphone 5 (less than a month old)... no real solutions available?! Tried resets, button press combinations etc. Apple Inc .. please advise.

On another note... we dont all have super fast internet, and to wait for an 8 hour download to reset iPhone is also not really a great solution! We should be able to reset, before having to "upgrade"!

Hope someone at Apple Inc is taking notes!

Same issue here with my girlfriends phone. She called Apple and they are using her glass being cracked as an excuse. The glass has been cracked for a couple months but no pieces are missing and the phone has been fully functional. I've seen phones in way worse shape work just fine. I have restored it via backup and restored it as a new phone and still nothing. The phone is on though because the ringer switch causes it to vibrate, makes the sound like it's charging when plugged up, etc. Also everything went smoothly when backing up, restoring and importing pictures. Have you had any luck with anything?

Anyone come up with a solution? I just got my iPhone 5s yesterday! I was in the middle of using it and the screen went blank and now siri is telling me stuff that I can barely hear. A hard reboot didn't help, and now I am supposed to put in my passcode but the screen is blank!!

Same issue and holding the power and home button down for 20 seconds or so worked. Plugged the power cord in as well but not sure that makes any difference. Need to hold down for at least 20 seconds until Apple appears.🙂

Hi,

The hold button for 20 seconds did not work for me, but this will solve your case if you are using iCloud.

Steps:

1. As you need to restore to factory via iCloud, you need to wipeout from www.icloud.com as you can't do that from your phone.

2. When done you will see you screen working again after all have been deleted and phone is back to factory settings.

3. Then add your data to your device (username and password iCloud), take backup from iCloud and you are back again!
