Problem updating ios 6.0.1 to 6.1.3 for my iphone 4s

I am trying to update my iphone ios using itunes. When I check for updates it says "could not contact server" and "please check connection". Also should I update ios from 6.0.1 to 6.1.3?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.0.1
