Why does my iPod touch,4th generation lose its charge quickly without using it?

I've had my iPod for over two years now and as of a few days ago, it's starting to lose its charge very quickly without me using it. I leave it on at full charge overnight and when I wake up, the battery is either really low or my iPod shut off. Is it because I overcharge it or could it be an old battery? How much does a battery replacement cost?

See the following for what to do to maximize battery life.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for$79. They do not fix yours.

Apple - iPod Repair price

A third-party place like the following will replace the battery for less. Google for more.

iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens

Replace the battery yourself if you are up to it. You can purchase a replacement battery for $10

iPod Touch Repair – iFixit
