My son's iPod touch won't charge no matter where I plug it in. Won't even turn on now.

It's been having trouble for the pasts few weeks, not charging when it's plugged in, but then we'll try it several times and it will eventually charge. Sometimes it says something like "this accessory is not supported." I've plugged it directly into the wall, into the computer, into a speaker I use for my iPod and iPhone and even my car has a USB port - none of them seem to work now.

I tried doing the steps to boot it into recovery mode, but that didn't do anything either.

Not Charge

- See:

iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting

- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.

- Try another charging source

- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

- Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar

This is a 4th gen iPod touch and I've tried several different cables (all Apple branded) none of them seem to do any better than any others.

I've also tried several charging sources.

The connector on the iPod looks okay - there's no obvious corrosion or anything visibly broken.

I was hoping to avoid the Genius bar - it's about a 1.5 hour drive to the nearest one. But that may be our only option. We got it refurbished from Apple at Christmas, so I think it should still be under warranty.
