Are photos stored on iphone's sim card?

I think I have lost all my photos. Is it possible that they are stored on the sim card?

Although photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are included with the iPhone's backup, photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera which is not handled by the iTunes sync process. The iTunes sync process handles transferring photos from your computer's hard drive to the iPhone.

I started using the cloud about 6 months ago but I turned off the photo stream because there wasn't enough room. I was still syncing to computer using itunes. I had a problems with phone this week customer care wanted me to back up and restore while I was at work. I did so using the cloud not remembering that my pictures were there. I then erased the phone and restored. No photos after that. I figure that I am out of luck......just grasping for straws.
