Suddenly the URL bar is different

All of a sudden, on my Macbook Pro, the URL box shows the first half in black and the second half in gray. In addition, the little search box that used to be on the right hand side of the URL bar is gone and the word Reader appears (in gray). What happened and how do I get it back?
