itunes will not automatic import my CDs. It did when I updated once. Help

I recently udated the new i tunes for my pc. I have windows vista. I uninstalled the quick time, itunes and i cloud. I then searched my computer for all itune relatged items and deleted them. I then installed the new itunes. I installed all my backed up music from my external and everything was going fine. I started importing my other CDs, which I had set to import auto and eject auto. Everything went ok. I stopped and shut down my computer. Came back later on to continue and now itumes will not import at all. After inserting the cd it just stops. No itunes opens at all. I also tried opening itunes first then inserting the cd. Still nothing. itunes is my default player and importer. Can anybody help me correct this problem? thanks
