iPhone 4s wifi greyed out

That's me now joined the list of victims. This is the last apple phone I buy, for sure.

Anyone know how to get ios 7 if this fixes the problem. Will try the freezer route tonight.

Just to add, I put it in the freezer for an hour, at the wifi is no longer greyed out.

Pathetic, god knows what damage this is doing...

My wifi is greyed out:(( i followed every instruction how to fix it but to no avail no luck:((( haven't tried the freezer but I'm tempted to try it:((

Freezing is a temporary fix at best, and likely to ruin the rest of the phone. This is not specific to any iOS version and has happened with every version since 1.0.1. iOS 7 won't fix this.

You can try using the hair dryer method. Place the hair dryer or heat gun above the iphone headphone jack for around 5 minutes, about 5mm away from the phone.

I took my Iphone back and got a loaner till mine came back from fixing Glad I did not fallow anyones advice in here

My iphone4s has the same problem. Wifi and bluetooth greyed out, it happened few weeks after software upgrade. It's been down for 2 months already, until I read this discussion and decided to open it up yesterday. Heating up the wifi IC with a hot air soldering equipment, and it works! my wifi and bluetooth is back! It might be the soldering condition of the wifi IC that makes this problem happen.

Me too this solved my problem..heating up the ic with hot air soldering equipment and my phone back to normal again:) but i asked someone to do it for me..

Turn on the ios 7 torch and run the battery down, put it on charge and the wifi should be back up. Seem to work for me.

My 4S worked after the hair dryer trick, though i did have to restore it afterwards. Did the ios 7 upgrade on Sunday, and just realized I don't have wifi again - it's greyed out once again. So possibly back to the hair dryer when I get home, and/or back ios 7 out and see if I get wifi again. Ugh.

Have the exact same issue, and after spending over one hour at the Genius Bar I was told by the store manager that the only way to solve the issue was to buy a replacement phone because it wasn't IOS 7 to caused the issue but it was the wireless chip that was going to break regardless, and the iOS upgrade just accelerated the issue...

I have even showed her the plenty of threads like this one about the issue and she said they were all coincidences.

The thing is that the phone was brand new as it was replaced by apple 6 moths ago and super well taken care off...

I have been an iPhone user since the first hour and never had an issue till the 4s.

I'm super disappointed with the apple customer serviceman lack of care towards long time customers.

If you know your old phones won't work with the new iOS do not offer the upgrade.

It seems to me like a poor scheme to sell more new generation iPhones, since you can't even downgrade the iOS 6.

Now I'm stuck with a $600 clunker that can barely make phone calls since the 4g antenna is compromised, and that it's battery drains within 4 hours in plane mode wth no apps running.

I'm sad to say but it is time to get a windows phone or an android.

All iPhone model 4 and later work with iOS 7. The grayed out WiFI is not iOS version specific. The circuit gets fried in vulnerable phones by the firmware burning process, not the iOS version itself. It has occurred just as frequently with every update since 1.0.1. Downgrading would not help.

Since it is a known issue then offer free replacement for phones that do break due to the issue, the phone worked perfectly fine on iOS 6.

It was also a replacement phone from May 2013.

Why are you asking me about Apple warranty policies?
