Q: installation failed!! Yet again!

This is happening everytime! I have downloaded so many copies running from 10.6.4 to 10.6.8. I installed 10.6.3 clean from disk i just purchased from the MAC store and had to go through the most ridiculous update procedure to get to 10.6.7. Now that i am finally at 10.6.7 i can't update to 10.6.8 without the "installation failed" message... yet again! I am to say the least, at my wits end. What should be simple, is absolutely not, and nothing from Apple to inform people upgrading the path they need to take. How do i get from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8? Re-download 10.6.8 for the fourth time?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

    Hi Lanny,

Do you think it possible that the earlier attempts to download the Combo were mistakenly made using the Server version?   Just a thought.   I know it's an old thread but it keeps coming up.

It might be. I seem to remember doing that in the past by accident.

I know this is an OLD thread, but I had this problem today and solved it by running software update, unchecking the combo update, and installing the other packages. THEN install the combo package, then install the installer update, then the remaining available packages.. sheesh

I changed the date on the target computer to a month after the date of the 10.6.8 Combo updater (i.e. to about April 2012). This fixed it immediately - the installation worked fine.

Hi, I have read the threads regarding update and install issues going from 10. 6 to 10. 6. 8 and cannot find a solution for my issue. I replaced a crashed hard drive in my mid 2009 MacBook Pro with a neutron gtx ssd. Zeroed the new drive and installed 10.6 from cd, then ran software update from the menu attempting to bring it up to 10.6.8. Have done this procedure 2x and cannot get past the 'frozen' space universe screen after hours of waiting. Trying to get back to 10.10 and am stuck. Have not done a sha check given that I have not done manual updates. The combo update v1.1 should work. Help?

    Brian

Your problem may not be exactly the same as that of the original poster of this older thread, and it can be very confusing for everybody if we try to answer more than one question in each thread.

In order for us to give your problem our undivided attention to try to solve it, would you kindly start your own thread, describing the trouble you are having in the fullest detail, including completing your details to show what Mac or iDevice you are using, what operating system, and what version of the application in question. Please remember to post in the forum relevant to your hardware or version of OS X.
