Q: Want to play MPG file on Mac Book

I have an Sony video camera and I want to play the videofiles > MPG on my Mac. Does anyone know what program I need to see the video? Mediaplayer does not open these files.

What is the extension of the file? (There are different kinds of MPEGS.)
