My iPad is showing our apple Id with my husbands phone number after I edit our apple Id to show my phone number. I need to change it to my number for I messaging can anyone help??

Open the Settings app > MEssages > Send & Receive. The phone number you added should be available (assuming you are connected to WiFi and it can update).
No the number I updated is still not available it still shows my husbands number
You realize you can also use an email address, right?
You may need to sign out of messages on all devices - including the phones and start over again. This kb article explains how to do it. Make sure you go all the way down the very end of the article - read it completely.
that is the problem I can see the wrong number but I cannot change it or add a new one How stupid is that

I think I have discovered the issue it is the SIM card
I gave my old phone to my husband and did not change the SIM card. I do believe that is why his number is showing up. Not sure what I can do about it short of changing his SIM card.
