I have a wi-fi connection from my router to my Canon MG5350 but would like a computer connection wi-fi to my printer without using the router. Can anyone help?
You'd need the IP of the Printer, then setup Printer as IPP Printer on the Mac.
I know what an IP address is but how do I find it and how do I use it please?

Not on 10.8 at the moment, but in Printer setup, remove any current instance, then add & look for Canon IP or such.
No printer set up as such so cannot see how to connect wi-fi.
See > OS X Mountain Lion: Set up a printer
For IP printing, see > OS X Mountain Lion: Set up an IP printer
I think den.thed may have you covered.
I used your links but some links on the help page are dead the ones I tried did not produce the command "add printer" or anythink like it.
Airport does not seem to exist for Mountain Lion 10.8.3
Ah yes, Apple changed the name of Airport to Wifi now.
I have managed to set up the computer to my Canon printer by Wi-Fi but without encryption. I have heard of Hexidecimal and ASCII but do know what it is or how to use it to encrypt by 40 bit or 128 bit. Please can you advise me?
