When I select my HDD in finder and select Get Info it reports that I have 150GB of free disk space, however when I run disk utility it reports that there is only 55GB of free disk space. What is going on? Where is that 95GB discrepancy being used? How do I reclaim it?
That's very helpful. Apparently I have 95GB of backups. How do I get rid of that? I already backup using time machine and to the cloud. Thanks.

You don't need to get rid of it. Space used by local snapshots is available space. Leave it alone and let the system work as designed.
