The iPhone does not support MAP (Message Access Protocol). There has been no announcement that Apple intends to add this. Try using Siri. She can read you your text messages and reply to them as well.
Thank you. Even though it is not good news, at least it lowers my frustration levels that have been on the rise because I have not been able to find a solution.
The vehicle needs to support PBAP(Phone Book Access Profile). If the vehicle does support this, normally the transfer of contacts from the phone to the car is automatic once the phone is paired to the car. Check the user guide for the vehicle and see if it supports the PBAP and if it does, how does it access contacts.
