After upgrading to OS X 10.8, my java will not work I tried reinstalling it with no luck any advise on how to get it working again. A lot of the games I play run on Java

Locate the version of Java that’s installed on your Mac OS X system.
1. Open the Utilities folder and run the Terminal application.
2. Type java -version and press Enter.
(space between java & -v important)
The version of Java that you have installed will then be displayed on the screen.

No it is not disabled. I installed the Java 7 and it shows it is there but when I try to run my games it does a Java check and says I have to download Java
Are you trying to run them ina browser?
If so try the re-enable SE6 applet.
