Sharing to DVD all my projects stops att 66 % - without error messages.

I'm a beginner in Final Cut Pro X. Not good at ¨computer terms¨ and computers so please take it easy when explaining.

My first three project was succesfully . (I then had no background image.)The fourth project (about 59 minutes) was at first successfully even with a background image. (But when I played the DVD on my DVD-player it stopped completely after 45 minutes, but went on when I tried to play it again, from the place where it stopped.) Then I replaced the background image with another and after that it stopped at 66 %. I read about the error -29 and made my image ¨smaller¨ but nothing happened. I also made the project shorter, about 57 minutes, nothing happened.

I tried a couple of completely new project from 2 – 20 minutes long – the same happened, it stopped at 66 %. (Read about deleting render files and tried that too without results.) I have a Mac OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion

Grateful for help after a week with problems. It’s a dancing project and people are waiting for the DVD…

I quit Create Disc and it relaunched by itself, along with the program quickly finishing the burn. Maybe a total of three minutes after quitting I received the "Share Successful" notification in the top right corner of my monitor.

With that said, I opened the newly created disc by using a blu-ray player called "Blu-ray Player" - yeah, catchy, isn't it, but it did not use the image that I provided in the Background image, but instead used a generic Blu-ray graphic. Also, my chapter markers came in as just time stamps without the names that I provided.

As a result, I tried once more, but this time I used the same image for the "Title image" and it quickly completed within less than three minutes - started at 66% - I thought that was odd. This time it was stuck at 86% for half a minute or so, but I let it complete without trying to quite Create disc. I received the "Share Successful" notification and re-inserted the disc and the same thing.

NOTE: When I tested the chapters, the disc was off by a few seconds.

With that said, I then inserted the disc into my PS3, which did show the correct background image, along with a title image. As well as, the chapters being precise and worked to perfection, which lead to me making a third disc. This time, I only included the Background and logo image, which was successful.

However, on the third disc, FCPX took quite a while to burn - 56 minutes until being prompted to insert a disc, followed by less than two minutes, when it appeared to stop on 86% again, but completed within less than a minute from that time. All together, it took one hour and one minute to complete. The entire concert is 35:48:18 - not very long to take so long to burn

BTW, the first time, I had inserted the disc before choosing to make the DVD through FCPX. The second and third time, I waited for Create Disc to prompt me for a writable disc.

I am using a 2015 MacBook Pro - 10.10.4 - 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 - 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 - Graphic's card: AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2048 MB. FCPX 10.2.1

Sidebar question in case anyone may know the answer, but it loads as a generic dvd icon. How can I give it a thumbnail image instead? Also, it doesn't auto start

Either way, hope that helps

I'm getting the 66% problem as well.

Al,

So was I (and I the list of fixes I tried is too long…no one would want to read it).

What finally got it to work for me was Share>DVD>Settings>Backround; added a small jpeg, then removed. For whatever reason, it seemed to jar Create Disk awake.

Export your Project as a Master File and use iDVD or Toast or similar DVD authoring app.

Completely agree. It was just annoying that I couldn't get it to work. No problems burning from Compressor, iDVD or DVDSP.

Anna,

Hope this works for you as well; in any event, Al's recommendations are good ones.

I've found if you open an existing Project (if one is in there) that is in the Create Disc recent file list it will work as well.

It seems to jog Create Disc into life.

Somewhere in the recent 10.0.8 update the communication between FCP X and the Create Disc application is twisted!!

Using this idea I didn't even add or delete an image, just opened the the Background window and closed it again.

This made one stubborn Project work/burn even with some retimed clips in it. 🙂

This action must flick an internal ON switch somewhere????

It's something simple but annoying. I have no idea where to look.

At least with a couple of extra clicks it's now working as expected.

Annamatilda might try the same to confirm the above??

Al and Russ, thanks for answer and all tips - I take one step at the time (with my limited knowledge):

1. Exporting as a Master File - 57 minutes - made a very big file: 50, 25 GB (It took time!). It's very much to compress to DVD. Am I really on the right way?

2. About burning in iDVD or another: I think I prefer iDVD. Have understood that it should be iDVD in iLife 11 (if I can get it) which may not by enough, when new to my computer? Have just moved my old iDVD 7.0.1 from my old Mac to my new and have it updated to 7.1.2, if that is to some help. If I can get iLife 11, is it possible to install it in my Mac and use it with Final Cut Pro X?

I have also tried with and without the still image in the Background window many times in different ways, have made a small jpeg instead, and have also just ¨opened the Backgroud window and slose it again¨, but always this 66 %. (What is it with 66 %?)

I hav ethe same problem, but the solution as herabove described, does not seem to work. I am almost in panic. need to burn DVD for my fathers birthday (becomes 80 years end of april).

Tried to solve the problem via Compressor, but the problem there seems that on my DVD-player it looks fine, but on other players there is a problem (intelacing etc) whil exporting form FCP was fine until problem as described above ros.

Help!

That's too bad. Have you tried all of the suggestions?

After trying Alchrima's variation on my ouija board approach, I've done several tests and it's worked every time.

And did you try the Create Disk work around?

It's not the easiest file to find, so…

Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/Plug-ins/Compressor/ComressorKit bundle/Contents/EmbeddedApps

As far as image quality goes, Compressor and FCP defaults should be about the same. Maybe you should de-interlace in FCP. Just change it to progressive when you export. (And if you have the option with your camera, record progressive from now.)
