Q: Photo stream question.

Hello

 

Confused as to where my pictures go and how they are stored using photo stream.

Pictures I shoot on an iPhone get put into a monthly project in Aperture.

If I go to reveal in finder they are not found.

Also confused about once the pics are filed in a project, if the image is deleted from photo stream will it stay in the project.

I want to free up space on the iPhone and take the images of there but leave them in the project on my MacBook Pro.

 

Is there any reading people can point me towards to help me understand this.

If they are put into monthly projects they will be auto imported and the auto import will store them as managed original image files. For managed original the "Reveal in Finder" will not work, since these images are stored in the "Masters" folder in the Aperture Library.

Yes, once you added it to your library by monthly autoimport, it will stay in the library, even after deleting it from the Photo Stream.

That should be no problem. Deleting from the Photo Stream on your phone is save, once you see the images in the auto import project.

    So the images will always stay in the masters file?

    For back up I will have to copy the Aperture library then?

     

    To clarify, am I right in thinking, that if I do nothing, the images will auto delete from the iPhone and iPad and MacBook Pro, but stay in the project on the MBP?

    Yes, after some time, when the stream fills up and older images will be replaced.

    To save your edits, tags, and other managed original image files, yes.

    So the images will always stay in the masters file?

    Yes, unless you delete the imported images, just like any other images you imported to Aperture. Are your other images referenced? Stored outside Aperture?

    New to Aperture.

     

    All my old images are on an external drive and are I guess what you are calling referenced.

    I have been taking a lot of reference shots on my iPhone and Aperture has nicely made monthly projects to store these in.

    I am wondering if it would be better to let Aperture ingest all my older images as well or leave things as they are.

     

    Looking for the simplest and foolproof way to store/catalogue my images.

    Still find it slightly confusing the way photo stream works, and to rely on it 100%

    Note Photo stream is in no way a means to store images. It is a temporary holding area that is designed for sharing images between devices. If you have images in the stream that you want to keep make sure you copy them to more permanent storage.

    I now understand photo stream is transitory.

     

    What I like though is the way Aperture has made a project for each month's photo stream, and that is what I am using as my final storage, on my MBP for all my iPhone images.

    My understanding is that these images are now not in photo stream and are permanent.

     

    I believe that back in photo stream the images will be erased after 30 days.

    Trying to sort out in my mind if that is synced on all devices.

    The images on my iPad are not quite the same as on my iPhone for example.

    Not vital as the master library is on the MBP (I hope)!!!!!

    Hi,

    I am trying to import a  picture from my photo stream (macbook pro) to my iphone. The photo is in my photo stream on my Mac but do not see that in photostream in iphone. Kindly advise
