No songs in the playlist could be found

Attempted to add songs to the playlist and I'm receiving the message: "iTunes cannot add any songs to the iPod because no songs in the playlist could be found. I've reset the iPod, uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes.

iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1, HP laptop running Windows 7

This is an iPod shuffle? Which model is it? This document shows the four types.

That document also explains the methods for adding songs to an iPod shuffle. Which one were you trying to use?
