    Hi SunnyJo,

Here is an Apple Support article that should help you with that:

    Hi Gail

Thanks for responding I have read this article, however it does not help me as I do not have the option when I click on the down arrow it just has "tell a friend, copy link, share on facebook, share on twitter, but "no gift this app" option.

Actually I have just realised that when I have purchased this app I don't appear to have the option.  If have not purchased the option, then I can gift the app.  I really want to gift an app that I have already purchased!

Sorry to say that it is not possible to gift an App that has purchased. You can only gift an App at the time of purchasing.

Yeah, so that's why you can't do it. You are basically wanting to give a free copy of an app to someone. If you want to gift something to someone, you have to buy it. You can't "gift" an app that you own - that would be more like "re-gifting" if you see what I mean.

Sorry, but to "gift" something to someone, you have to buy the gift to start with.... Think about Amazon. You can "loan" people some of the books you might have on Kindle, but you can't "give" them to anyone. And you can't even loan many of your books, or any of your magazines, movies, music, etc. Same principle here. You bought it, you own it, and you cannot "re-gift" it....

    Sorry -

Actually I do want to buy the app which is why it would be a gift ..... What I don't understand is why I can't gift the app by making another purchase and then sending this as a gift to someone as I would like them to share the experience without the other person having to pay for it as I would like them to have it as a gift.   Does that make more sense ....

Thanks for the in-depth explanation on the definition of the word "gift" .... thanks for your time and have a wonderful day!!! ...

OK, so it sounds like you are trying to do the gift on your Mac. I also tried it on my Mac with an App I had already purchased, and you are right - it doesn't give you the option to gift it....on the Mac. I looked up the App you were asking about, and based on what I could see in the iTunes Store for Apps, and on your indication that you have an iPhone 4, it appears that this is an iPhone app?

If it is, then you can gift it (even if you have purchased it) via the iPhone App Store (I tested this with my purchased app that showed no "gift" option on my Mac). Click on the App Store on your phone, do a search for your app, then click on the share option at the top right hand corner. When I tried this on my iPhone using the same app that I had looked for in iTunes on my Mac, it came up with a window that had the "Twitter/Email/Facebook/etc. options, but it also had a "Gift" option.

So, try to gift it via your App Store app on your phone.

Hope you have the same results I did!

P.S. I have also sent in a support ticket to iTunes Store Support for this - clearly there is an issue.... (sorry about the misunderstanding - it doesn't work the way it is supposed to!)

    Cheers,

    Hi Gail

Thanks for your support, this worked and I was able to submit a gift to my brother who was really pleased ....

Thanks for being patient with me perhaps I could have explained it in more detail.  I think I was exasperated by the time I decided to go on the forum.

Theoretically, this should be a very simple task, however, all is well that ends well.

Massive thank you for your support, and I sincerely wish you a Wonderful Day.

    Jo x

    Hi Jo,

You are most welcome! I'm glad you were able to gift the app to your brother. I am in communications with iTunes support about this issue. When I get to the bottom of it, I will repost on this thread, so you will be able to know where we landed!

    Cheers,
