In iMovie Maps, Backgrounds and Animatics what are the black/grey and white "cutouts" of people used for?

Thanks

Hi

the word Animatics fooled me into thinking of Animated Movies. Has nothing to do with that - they are just Place holders when using the Story-Board function in building up a movie in the ways Pro's does.

Map's - Well sort of animation when flying from on Airport to next in a trip - to make story more of a continuum.

Backgrounds - Can be many things - if for texts then when White text on black surface is not what one wants one can set a color to it. But there are many kinds of backgrounds e.g. when using Green-Screen etc. So Please tell what You try to do.

Easy to read and in a humor I like - may differ - 😉

Hi Rosalind,

These animatics (the "cutouts") are used in the Trailers in iMovie. If you start a Trailer rather than a normal project, you will see how they work. Note that they are also referred to as templates.

Here's a link to the iMovie Help topic -

You can also use the animatics as place-holders in your project. These can be replaced with actual footage once you are ready to insert the appropriate clips.
