Apr 14, 2013 10:02 AM in response to theShaeby LarryHN,★HelpfulYes you need iPhoto '11 - minimum 9.2.2 for PhotoStream - 9.4 for shared PhotoStream
To use Photo Stream, including Shared Photo Streams, you need an iCloud account, compatible devices, and up-to-date software:
- iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6.0 or later
- Mac with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 or later and iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later
- PC with Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) and the iCloud Control Panel 2.1 or later for Windows
- Apple TV (2nd generation) with Software Update 5.1 or later
You can still use Photo Stream without Shared Photo Streams if your devices meet these requirements:
- iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.1 or later
- Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and iPhoto 9.2.2 or Aperture 3.2.3 or later
- PC with Windows 7 or Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) and the iCloud Control Panel v2.0 or later for Windows
- Apple TV (2nd generation) with Software Update 5.0 or later
For complete iCloud setup instructions, visit How to set up iCloud.
And note that the article you referenced also specifies the same -
My Photo Stream
My Photo Stream is an iCloud service where you can view your recent photos on all of your devices. This Photo Stream feature requires OS X Lion v10.7.2 (or later) and iPhoto 9.2 (or later) or Aperture 3.2 (or later).
Shared Photo Streams
Shared Photo Streams allow you to share selected photos with people you choose. This Photo Stream feature requires OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 (or later) and iPhoto 9.4 (or later) or Aperture 3.4 (or later).
Maybe you are finding Apple's weird numbering scheme confusing - iPhoto '09 is version 8.x.x - iPhoto '11 is version 9.x.x

Apr 14, 2013 1:15 PM in response to LarryHNby theShae,Thank you so very much for the prompt response. So please if you don't mind could you tell me.
If I am out of town and I have a photo-stream that links to my iMac (I'm guessing I subscribe to one or link it to one, not sure how that works yet) I can input photos on my phone into that photo-stream and then delete them from my phone, with the purpose of freeing up space on my iPhone and they are then available on my iMac at home?? Is this how it can work or will the pics be deleted from my iMac when I delete them on my phone? I'm hoping you understand. I need to be able to get photos on my iMac at home and be able to delete them from my iPhone, I have a very small iPhone unfortunately and am in need of this.

It depends on the PS setting you have on your Mac and if you mac is on and running and a somewhat random amount of time
If you have PS enabled on your Mac and you have it set to automatically import PS photos then once the photos have appeared in its PS and it has noticed and imported to the iPhoto library then you can delete them form the phone - I prefer to wait until I see them in iPhoto myself since the process is not easy to be sure it is coplete
