Mail app deletes my messages on the server and I can't access them on my computer after only reading them.

I have my gmail account (university account) synced with mail app. When I read a message on my ipad first the message gets deleted off the server after having only read it as if it never existed. When I go to my computer to check my email it doesn't exist anywhere (not even in trash). What is going on? I also have a yahoo account synced and that doesn't happen at all. Also, if I check the email first in my computer it doesn't disappear like that.

iPad, iOS 6.1.3

Sounds like you have your gmail setup as a "POP" account which would remove the messages from the server once its downloaded to the iPad. What you will want to do is to setup your gmail account as an "IMAP" account so your emails will go to all devices or computers. No if you delete the message with the account configured as IMAP it will delete it across all devices and from gmail. Here is the information from google to help your setup on your iPad.
