prints from iPhoto too dark

why have my prints from iphoto started coming out too dark? The picture looks perfect in the viewer, but the prints are too dark. They come out fine from picasa, but I hate to use picasa because the folders are a mess when the pictures come from iphoto. Or if someone can tell me how to get my pictures from iphoto into picasa in a coherent folder system, I would always print from picasa.

My color profile choices are color smart (the default), grayscale, or Adobe sRGB. My other option is just not click on Iphoto in the print window and then I have no choice. The color smart comes out a few shades darker than the screen shows. Just allowing the Iphoto defaults and not changing the settings is lighter. I just want the print to come out like what I am seeing in the Iphoto viewer. I edit it and it looks perfect, but it prints out different most of the time. When I print out a picture from preview (that I have downloaded from source other than my camera) the picture prints out just like the preview shows it, but I don't know how to edit those pictures. Thanks.

I fix this in iPhotos by selecting edit > adjust > then move the middle bar of levels to the left between 30 and 40%. When done printing you have to undo it to see the picture normally on your monitor.

I have never been able to fix it by calibrating my monitor or trying different color spaces. I wasted a hundred prints or more trying to do that.

Hope that helps.
