Java..., end of the road?

One news site I subscribe to needs Java: www.theglobeandmail.com to run video. After I have complied with all their help suggestions: latest versions of Flash Player, Java, deleting of temporary Javaoracle files, no success.

I then followed the instructions of http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US to re-enable Apple provided Java SE6 web plug-in. No success. I then disabled Java SE 6 again, and re-installed a fresh version of jre-7u17-macosx-x64..., no success.

What am I missing here?

Thanks,

Klaus
